Adam Wimpenny is a London-based film and television director.

His work has previously won BAFTA, RTS and Broadcast awards. He has made flagship shows for many of the major broadcasters in the UK and US and has been profiled as a Screen International Star of Tomorrow.

Adam has recently directed series 1 & 2 of HOTEL PORTOFINO, a lavish 1920s drama set in Italy

starring Natascha McElhone and Anna Chancellor for PBS, ITV, SKY & FOX.

Adam’s latest project is An Impossible Way to Die, a gripping six-part detective thriller for Channel 5, starring Sharon Rooney (Barbie) and Emmett J. Scanlan (MobLand).

The series follows DS Katie Salter (Rooney), a grounded, family-oriented detective whose quiet policing life is turned upside down when four people are discovered dead around a dinner table, with a scorpion emerging from one of their mouths.

Thrown into an increasingly complex murder investigation alongside the uncompromising DI Niall Conway (Scanlan), Salter finds herself drawn into a dark web of secrets, corruption and conspiracy. As the case deepens, their contrasting approaches collide in a race to uncover the truth before more lives are lost.

A dark, unpredictable and character-driven crime thriller exploring identity, power and the lengths people will go to protect those they love.

Directed by Adam Wimpenny. Produced by Clapperboard for Channel 5. Airing in 2027.
